What does an occupational therapist do?

 

Occupational Therapists, Registered (OTRs) are professionals who study human growth and development with a special emphasis on the social, emotional, and physiological effects of illness and injury. OTRs are health care professionals who evaluate and treat people with health problems resulting from injury, disease, developmental disorders or illness. OTRs assess joint mobility, strength and coordination as it relates to an individuals as related to their upper body funtion. OTRs give people the "skills for the job of living" by customizing treatments aimed at improving activities of daily living. OTRs also provide creative solutions and resources for carrying out daily activities, including recommendations and training in the use of adaptive equipment.

 

 

What does a speech language pathologist do?

 

Speech Language Pathologists (SLPs) are professionals educated in the study of human communication, its development, and its disorders. SLP's evaluate the speech, language, and cognitive- communication and swallowing of children and adults. Therapists determine what communication and swallowing problems exist and identify the best way to treat them.

 

What does a physical therapist do?

Physical Therapists (PTs) are health care professionals who evaluate and treat people with health problems resulting from injury, disease, developmental disorders or illness. PTs assess joint mobility, strength and coordination as it relates to an individuals lower body funtion and their ability to walk, transfer and move around within their home environment and the community.
